Velvet Stream

ArtForm: CityShowcase Act/Composer

Velvet Stream are a five-piece band from Fortismere, North London. They formed after meeting at school and bonded over a shared love of music legends such as Patti Smith, Talking Heads and the Beach Boys, before setting out to create a sound that would fuse contemporary pop with sentimental nods to their music idols. First single ‘Selfish-Mind’ captures this sound in a doo-wop summer smash that inspired thousands of online fans to vote for the band via the MTV website.

While the boys are acknowledged as some of the most talented young musicians on the London gig scene, lead singer Mati’s voice is remarkable in its intensity, tone and range. This combination has seen the band perform at some of London’s most respected venues including Ronnie Scott’s, Shoreditch House, The Lexington and Monto Water Rats. They have also recorded a BBC Radio Session at Maida Vale Studios, and live session for Dropout TV where they join the ranks of Plan B, Alex Clare and Owl City.

The band are currently recording a new EP, touring and building their online presence. An unexpected cover of Stooshe’s Black Heart posted by them to YouTube last month went down a storm and attracted retweets from high profile fans including super-producer Labrinth and the Stooshe girls themselves.
