Priors and Rail

ArtForm: CityShowcase Act/Composer

Priors & Rail first crossed paths at Rail’s original night 'SUBLOW' at the Rhythm Factory in East London. After Priors won the DJ competition, a bass heavy friendship began to bloom.

Since that auspicious night 3 years ago, Priors & Rail have been smashing dance floors all over the UK, supporting a wide range of established acts such as Shy FX, Brookes Bros, Total Science, Sigma, Artificial Intelligence, London Elektricity, EZ, Zinc, Digital Mysticz, MJ Cole & Redlight but to name a few.

After gaining recognition around the UK for sure-fire mixing and smile-inducing sets, the production ‘bit was chomped’. Rolling b-lines and tight-as-a-ducks-ass beats, rip through systems across the country, gaining airplay on many of the UK and International radio stations.

The scene has been set for this summer; with several international bookings under their belt and remix work from as far as West-Coast USA, this duo are bound to batter your ear drums at some point…

DJ Priors

Back in 1998, Priors first entered the world of Drum n Bass after attending events and nights run by local DJ's where he lived, such as Tommy Kain, and the T.S.C. boys.

After being amazed at the diversity of the music and the ways in which you could imprint your own style and identity on it he knew it was this that would let him express himself in the ways he wanted.

With a set a turntables and friends that had knowledge of the big tunes and general DnB that was around at the time, he started to learn to mix, and before long entered his first competition, with only 4 months of Djing under his belt.

It then wasn't long before people were hearing the name DJ Priors around his home town, and surrounding areas, and seeing him play parties, local illegal raves, and University events, even though he was only 16 years old.

Time moved on, the year 2001 came, and DJ Priors got himself his first residency at a small club called the Bang Bar.

Every Saturday there was a DnB night in which Priors slowly moved up the listings from first on, to headlining the Saturday nights, and after some good self promotion, and many mix CD's, he secured residencies in the south of England, playing nights at the Fez club.

After turning 18, Priors took a big step and moved to Malaysia, where he honed his networking and promotional skills, whilst still Djing and producing.

Via a lot of hard work and some very nice contacts, he had himself a residency at club Zouk, and for nine months played a mix of breaks, and house, giving him exposure in foreign countries.

Ten months passed, and Priors decided to come back to the home shores of the UK, where he honed his production skills at ACM, (Academy of Contemporary Music) an advanced music college designed to give up and coming talent a chance, and point them in the right direction for musical success.

He was lectured by such people as Chad Jackson (DMC winner), Jim Jomoa, Jamie Griffiths, Stretch, and Les Adams, all of which are legends in their own right.

But that wasn’t enough. All the while smashing DJ sets left right and centre and producing heavy on the bass rollers, Priors completed a Music Business Masters, allowing him to take his company BIG Intent promotions to the next level.

Fast forward to the present day, Priors has well over ten years experience as a DJ, and extensive knowledge of the scene, having played out all over the place - from London’s underground nightclubs to residencies in Ibiza. With a litany of accolades to his name, including top-ranking positions in both New Wave and Drum n’ Bass Arena competitions (to name a few) this guy is definitely one to watch out for! He is now back with a lung full of fresh oxygen and some of the biggest gigs in his career to date under his belt will most definitely keep the night energized!
