ArtForm: Workshop Panellist, Event Host, CityShowcase Act/Composer

Nihal has been living for music since he started promoting rap shows in his native Essex while still doing his A Levels. By the time he was about to graduate he was signed to a major label, and since then he has been a music journalist, PR and manager.  While working for the groundbreaking Asian record label Outcaste Records he promoted Badmarsh & Shri's seminal 'Signs' album securing their appearance on Later With Jools Holland, and Nitin Sawhney's 'Beyond Skin'.

In October 2002 Nihal joined BBC Radio 1 to present the Asian/Desi beats show, a showcase for music that incorporates some musical or lyrical elements of asian music whether that be straight up Bhangra and Bollywood, or all types of electronica that incorporate that eastern vibe.  In any given Radio 1 show of his you will hear deep house, electro house, d&b, dubstep, rap, grime and of course some heavy bhangra beats as well. That eclecticism is reflected in his DJ sets that really do span the genres, mixing eastern fused electronica with his biggest tracks of the moment, bringing in some old school tracks and even adding some unusual interludes. He also loves to DJ alongside percussionists such as tabla and dhol drummers to lift the DJ set into a real jam/performance onstage.  In September 2009 he was asked to host the Radio 1 Review Show.  A show that each week asks a panel of musical people to judge the hottest releases with Nihal as the show's host. Since September 2009 the Radio 1 Review Show has had an extensive list of musical luminaries appear on it from Steve Aoki, Sister Bliss, and Andy C to Chase & Status, Four Tet and Rusko plus many many more.

In May 2004  he launched his very own clubnight Bombay Bronx to showcase his love of Rap music and asian beats, with live MC battles and many different artists and musicians gracing the stage of the Notting Hill Arts Club in West London. Since it's creation Bombay Bronx has seen some of the biggest artists in the scene perform live such as Raghav, Swami, Jay Sean, and Imran Khan, as well as giving a platform for a huge amount of unsigned artists.

As well as DJing at his own clubnight Nihal has DJed the Isle Of Wight Festival, Glastonbury and Bestival in the UK, as well as club and University gigs up and down the country.Nihal has DJed in Australia, Bangladesh, Dubai, Germany, India, Singapore, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Lebanon, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Thailand, and toured America.  He  DJ'd at the inaugural NH7 Festival in Dec 2010 in Pune, India. As well as India he has played at Womad in Singapore and has been asked to be the creative director of a brand new festival called Electric Peacock in Sri Lanka. From using his experience of the record industry to help new artists to evolve, to helping to promote asian music round the world Nihal will never stop doing what he loves.
