Coco Electrik

ArtForm: CityShowcase Act/Composer

The brain-child of Australian born one-time Ken Russell associate Anne Booty (real name btw), Coco Electrik have been rather busy since Tummy Touch Records head honcho Tim “Love” Lee stumbled across their now classic Your Love Is Gum track at the end of a long forgotten demo tape four years ago. Two further acclaimed singles followed on said imprint, taking in collaborations with Whitey and Tom Vek, before Anne decided to set up her own label, Oscillation Records a year ago. Single Apple Pie was the first fruit of this new venture, followed by debut album Army Behind The Sun (produced by Royal Appointment & Skylab) last year. Punctuated by her unique vocals and a heady mix of electronica, filthy funk and synth-pop sass, plus a wealth of praise from the likes of the NME, Vice (8/10), Popjustice, Mixmag, Tiga and Cut Copy, this album marks a coming of age for the group. 2007 was rounded off with a storming celebratory album launch at Camden’s legendary BE Presents night at the Proud Galleries.

Other activity has taken in a bizarre appearance on prime-time BBC1, curating a long running night for Vice magazine’s london based pub, djing at Cut Copy’s album launch, being picked by Audi to launch their TTRemastered campaign, collaborating with Acoustic Ladyland on their widely lauded Cuts & Lies single, picking up John Waters as a fan, as well as narrowly missing out on a certain Apple themed ad.

New album - White Ink - JUL Y 26
New Single - Fire & Ice - June 28

Coco Electrik return with new album White Ink (Piccadilly Records staff pick, “Ten anthems that will have you partying in no time” - VICE) following their 2007 debut Army Behind The Sun (“One of the strongest albums of the year” - Mixmag)

White Ink was written and recorded by Coco Electrik catalyst Anne Booty and long-term recording partner Paul Harrison (Royal Appointment) and features appearances from George Demure (Output, Tirk) Kreeps (Output) and Pete Wareham (Acoustic Ladyland, Polar Bear). The album was mastered by Robert Harder.

The ten tracks within push their brand of idiosyncratic eccentric pop to a new, darker, more accomplished peak, taking in a pop art collage of musical styles along the way.

Album highlights include the falsetto future-disco of Shine A Light, the electro-gutter-rock of forthcoming singles Fire & Ice and Black Widow and the beautiful whimsy and grind of Breakfast In Berlin.

The album is preceded by single Fire & Ice, featuring remixes from Kreeps, Ulysses82 and Royal Appointment released on June 28. See the video here:
