Calling All University / College Artists

London music festival ‘CITY SHOWCASE: SPOTLIGHT LONDON’ announces search for new artists from London universities and colleges to celebrate 10th Anniversary.

City Showcase: Spotlight London, the live music event and search for new musical talent, which is taking place this year 9-13th October in Central London, has opened for registration. Following their highly successful Soho Flea Market event, the not-for-profit year-round music festival returns with a call to arms to all new bands and artists wanting the chance to appear in the capital and take part in the 10th Anniversary celebrations to submit applications by 1 October.

City Showcase: Spotlight London has been nurturing new musical talent since 2003 and each year hosts over 200 musicians covering a broad range of genres. Amy Winehouse, Jay Sean, Keane, Gabriella Cilmi, Razorlight, Mr Hudson, Akala, Laura Marling, Newton Faulkner, Ray LaMontagne, Hot Chip, Seth Lakeman, Sway, N-Dubz, and Scouting for Girls are just some of a growing list of alumni who performed their first live gigs on a City Showcase stage.

Now the search has begun for the next generation of City Showcase artists. Performers and bands who take part in City Showcase: Spotlight London will be performing in the music venues, shops and stores of London’s West End, in front of talent scouts, industry executives and the capital’s most discerning music fans.

This year City Showcase is encouraging applications from university and college bands that have formed during their studies and are now looking for that big breakthrough. One guaranteed performance slot will be allocated to the university/college artist who wins ‘City Showcase: The Challenge’.

City Showcase events provide unique opportunities for musicians and artists to grow loyal fan bases and gain valuable experience performing before a live audience. All types of performers of all types of music can apply.

To mark the 10th Anniversary, City Showcase is offering free entry to festival events to those who have registered online for wristbands at least a month in advance of the festival otherwise entry will be £5 on the door.

City Showcase Director Nanette Rigg says: “We are now gearing up for our tenth anniversary celebrations with more venues signed up to take part as well as an outdoor stage this year, and with more potential candidates wanting to take part, it should be our greatest event yet”.

This year’s ‘Creative’, Caffy St Luce of Rocklands says: “I am really excited to be involved in City Showcase: Spotlight London as the event has been instrumental in instigating ideas and genuinely raising artist profiles. City Showcase is an established success, but still manages to be inclusive and approachable for the maverick and alternative.”
