Introduction to Triathlon Square
As part of the PruHealth World Triathlon Grand Final London, Trafalgar Square will become Triathlon Square and British Triathlon wants you to join in the fun at one of London’s most iconic landmarks.
The BBC’s live coverage of the elite races will be shown on big screens for everyone to enjoy, and those who’ve never tried the sport will be given the opportunity to take part in a mini-triathlon within Trafalgar Square itself thanks to Triathlon England.
Kids’ Zones, temporary pools, static bikes and treadmills, along with many more fun triathlon activities to get involved in, will complete the triathlon experience.
Following the Opening Ceremony, Triathlon Square will be open to the public from 12 September until 15 September.
Triathlon Square opening hours
10:00 – 19:00 12th and 13th September
08:00 – 19:00 14th September
10:00 – 16:00 15th September
British Triathlon Activity
British Triathlon will be hosting a festival of the sport on stage in Triathlon Square broadcasting not only the elite women’s and men’s races live, but introducing you to some of the British athletes competing across the five days of competition.
• Ladies race from 08:00 – 10:30 on Saturday 14th September
• Men’s race from 13:30 – 15:30 on Sunday 15 September (and catch the race as it goes through Trafalgar Square)
Spectators will also be able to watch highlights of the junior and U23 races in Hyde Park and a variety if informative videos of triathlon in action.
British Triathlon will also bring to life the sport, through the Wattbike Challenge that will see members of the public challenge themselves against the clock with their performances broadcast on the big screen.
Triathlon England Activity
Triathlon England is in charge of the endless pool, Wattbikes and treadmill live site.
The site will have a Triathlon England trailer from which they will control proceedings and sign up people to participate. There will be a changing room, 2 treadmills, 2 Wattbikes and an endless pool.
From 10:00 – 11:00 Triathlon clubs will compete and thereafter the public will have an opportunity to beat the club members.
The British Triathlon Foundation
This is the Foundation that engages with young people to bring them into triathlon.
They are hosting an activity designed to provide engagement for children, aimed primarily at 8-14 year olds (minimum height of 1.2m), that is both achievable and fun while incorporating some of the basic principles of triathlon including a transition exercise, a wattbike exercise and a cross trainer exercise.
There will also be various activities from the sponsors of the PruHealth World Triathlon Grand Final London celebrating the sport of triathlon.
