We're hitting the road again ...
Following a fantastic event last year, the City Showcase: Finding the Future programme returns to Hull on Monday 10 October 2011. Solo artists, bands, songwriters or quite simply those interested in the music business, will have the opportunity to put their questions to a panel of music industry experts and perform at an open mic live critique.
Backed by PPL, AIM, The PRS for Music, BASCA, ASCAP, the MU, MMF and FAC, the event will be promoted through university partners as well as through community organisations and local press into the wider community.
The Finding the Future event will be held at the University of Hull. The programme will include session on mapping a career in music and building a digital strategy and, at the end of the day, there will a chance to have your live performance critiqued by the panel. City Showcase will be sending scouts to search for new talent to bring forward to the May festival in London. This year’s panel include Hull’s own Henry Priestman (artist – The Christians), Keith Harris (Stevie Wonder’s manager and PPL Director of Performer Affairs), Ross Gautreau Polydor A&R), David Riley (Good Lizard) and Nanette Rigg (City Showcase Director)
The event in Hull is sponsored by the University of Hull and is free.
‘We are really excited about this opportunity to work with the University of Hull to search for the next generation of new young musicians and help them with their careers. Through City Showcase, we are widening participation in music and providing opportunities for future generations of writers, performers and creatives across all genres. We want as many musicians from Hull to come to this free event and have the opportunity to perform to our industry experts’ says Festival Director Nanette Rigg. ‘We are fantastically honored to have such high profile people to participate in this brilliant day’
Dr Peter Elsdon, Head of Jazz and Popular Music said: “The University of Hull is excited to be involved in the City Showcase day. We’re committed to providing our students with as much experience of the Music Industry as possible to prepare them for careers in this area. This day provides a great opportunity for students to learn from professionals in this area and work towards a career in the Music Industry.”
